Somebody paidfor the door youwalked through.
The forty-eight rooms are free to read and always will be. That costs money anyway — hosting, the people who write, the tools underneath. If you can carry a bit of that for somebody who cannot, this is where you do it.
"We would rather have a hundred people giving five euros than one company deciding what a chamber says."
Nothing you give buys influence over what is on this site. Not a mention, not a logo in a chamber, not a say in what gets written. That is not modesty — it is the reason the chambers can stay honest, and it is written into the advertising rules.
Pick an amount.
€ 25, once Roughly what it costs to keep one chamber online for a month.
Who is giving
You do not need an account. We ask for these so we can send you a receipt and thank you properly — not to sign you up for anything.
The card may be a business one — that is fine, as long as you carry the cost yourself. Organisations support The Door through the Alliance instead, so that nobody can wonder what a gift bought.
What the ledger shows
You can change or withdraw this later — write to us and it is done, without explaining why.
In that order.
- Keeping it up. Hosting, the domain, the bills that arrive whether anyone visits that month or not. Unglamorous and first, because a site that is down teaches nobody anything.
- Writing the rooms. Forty-eight rooms exist. They are not finished — several are thinner than they should be, and somebody has to sit down and fix that.
- Sessions. Facilitators get paid. A room held badly is worse than no room, and "do it for the exposure" is how you end up with rooms held badly.
- Making it usable for more people. Screen readers, translation, and the parts of accessibility that never make it into a launch because nobody is paying for them.
Or back
one thing.
Projects — coming as soon as there are three worth naming
Named projects, with a number attached
Not "support our mission" but "this costs €800 and here is what exists when it is done". You will be able to give to one of them instead of to the whole thing.
You see where it landed
Every project says what it raised and what happened. If it does not get finished, that is on the page too — a list that only shows successes is a brochure.
Backing is not buying
You do not get to steer what a project says, and neither does a company. Same rule as everything else here, and it does not bend for a large amount.
Four things you should know, including the awkward one.
The Door is a business, not a charity. There is no ANBI status, so a gift is not tax-deductible and we will not pretend otherwise. If that matters to you, do not give here.
A gift is a gift. No membership, no early access, no badge, nothing that later turns out to have been a purchase. Membership is a separate thing and it costs € 25 a month.
Monthly stops whenever you say so, in one click, and we do not ask why. The hardest-to-cancel subscription in your life should not be the one to a learning project.
We never see your card. Payments run through Stripe; what reaches us is that a payment happened and how much. Your name only if you type it.
Keep a door open for somebody.
Most people who find this place are not sure yet what they want to do. That is the whole point of it, and it only works if getting in costs them nothing.
